New tourist certificate law postponed

SA Home Affairs

SA Home Affairs has postponed the implementation of new tourist laws until 1 June 2015.

The new laws require parents travelling with children to carry the child's unabridged birth certificate.

Home Affairs says the move to a later date will give tourists and travel organisations more time to prepare and authorities more time to properly implement the rules.

The new requirement for parents travelling with children is part of a number of new South African immigration laws, announced by Home Affairs Minister, Malusi Gigaba, at the beginning of this year.

Another requirement is that when the child is only accompanied by one parent, that parent will need to show consent in the form of an affidavit or court order from the other registered parent.

This rule has also been postponed until June next year.
