First Car Rental supporting the Community through Fulton School for the Deaf 

In May 2018, First Car Rental, in collaboration with its holding company, the JSE-listed Combined Motor Holdings Group (CMH), proudly contributed to community upliftment with a notable donation. This corporate social responsibility (CSR) project involved sponsoring and adapting a 22-seater bus for Fulton School for the Deaf. Branded specially for the school, the bus serves as a critical resource, not only for school outings and sporting events but also for providing daily transport to day-scholars from Pinetown and nearby areas.  

Bruce Barritt, Managing Director of First Car Rental and Executive Director at CMH, expressed his enthusiasm: “We are delighted and honoured to support Fulton, its staff, and students by providing them with this essential school bus. Safe transport at Fulton is a necessity, and everyone at First Car Rental admires the courage and resilience of the individuals at Fulton, who achieve so much against all odds.” 

Located in Gillitts, near Durban, Fulton School for the Deaf is dedicated to excellence in deaf education, offering quality pre-primary, primary, and high school education for profoundly hearing-impaired children. With its motto, Intellego et Procedo (I Understand and I Advance), the school embodies its commitment to fostering growth and learning. 

Bronwyn Bouwer, Acting Principal at Fulton, shared her gratitude: “On behalf of our retired principal, Mrs. Beryl Campbell, our Fulton families, and staff, we extend immense thanks to First Car Rental and CMH for this generous contribution. Not only is it a lively, fun-looking vehicle, but it also significantly enhances the safety of our learners as they travel for educational outings, sports fixtures, and daily transport needs.” 

Asheel Maharaj, a Grade 8 learner at Fulton, echoed this sentiment: “Thank you so much for this wonderful new bus. It makes it so much easier and safer for us to go on outings and travel to school. We truly appreciate your generosity.”
