First Donates Bus to Fulton School for the Deaf
May 2018 - First Car Rental, together with it's holding company, JSE-listed, Combined Motor Holdings Group (CMH), sponsored and adapted a 22-seater bus to Fulton School for the Deaf, and branded it specifically for the school. Apart from transport required for school outings and sport fixtures, Fulton also provides daily transport for day-scholars living in Pinetown and surrounding areas.
Says Bruce Barritt, Managing Director at First Car Rental and Executive Director at CMH, "We are so delighted and honoured to have been able to assist Fulton, its staff and students, by giving them this new school bus. Safe transport at Fulton is an absolute necessity, not a nice-to-have. All of us at First Car Rental have enormous admiration for individuals who achieve against all odds, and this is exactly what they do at Fulton every day."
Situated in Gillitts, outside of Durban, Fulton is driven by its vision of "Excellence in Deaf Education" and lives by its motto "Intellego et Procedo (I Understand and I Advance)". The school is devoted to the education of profoundly hearing-impaired and deaf children, offering quality pre-primary, primary and high school education.
Says Acting Principal, Bronwyn Bouwer, "On behalf of our retired principal, Mrs Beryl Campbell, all our Fulton families and staff, we wish to extend a huge vote of gratitude to First Car Rental and CMH for their extremely generous sponsorship of this wonderful passenger vehicle. Not only is it a fun-looking vehicle, but it will help greatly in the safe transport of our learners for educational outings, sporting fixtures and general transport."
Asheel Maharaj, a Grade 8 learner at Fulton, commented,"Thank you so much for this wonderful new bus. It is so much easier and safer now for us to go on outings and get to and from school. We really appreciate your generosity."
Raise Your Voice and WIN with #First4Rhino
Join First Car Rental in our mission to protect one of South Africa’s most iconic animals with the #First4Rhino campaign. We’re calling on you to make a difference: go live on Facebook and tell us why saving the rhino is important to you. By raising awareness together, we’re contributing to a future where Black and White Rhinos thrive – not just survive.
Over the past few years, First Car Rental has invested in various rhino initiatives across South Africa because we believe in the urgent need to act now. Our corporate social responsibility at First Car reflects a deep commitment to preserving our wildlife for future generations. If we don’t step up, these animals could vanish forever.
It’s Now or Never – and with your help, we can make a real impact. Every contribution to #First4Rhino goes directly to the Now Or Never African Wildlife Trust (NNAWT), an organisation dedicated to saving these majestic creatures.
The Now or Never African Wildlife Trust
The NNAWT’s mission is clear: Save Them All. The Trust is committed to rescuing and rehabilitating rhino and elephant calves who survive poaching attacks, providing them with care in specialised orphanages, and eventually releasing them back into the wild. With the support of partners like First Car Rental, these community projects in South Africa help provide the resources needed for the NNAWT’s critical rescue missions.
The founders of the NNAWT know that, with a strategic plan, unwavering determination, and the essential funding, saving every single one of these animals is achievable. Their approach focuses on rescuing, rehabilitating, and reintroducing animals into their natural habitats – where they belong.
Together, through initiatives like #First4Rhino, First Car Rental CSR projects are making a stand for conservation. Now is the time to act – because our voices and actions today will shape the legacy we leave behind for tomorrow
