Wolkberg Wilderness Area, Limpopo
True adventurers are always looking for challenging journeys. Where the Drakensberg meets the Strydpoort Mountains, the Wolkberg Wilderness is an awe-inspiring 22 000-hectare piece of paradise.
Scenically delightful, the area is strewn with vertical quartzite cliffs, countless kloofs, deep and densely forested ravines, massive buttresses, interlocking spurs, and clear rivers.

This striking part of the Limpopo province, with its variety of trails and diverse habitat, is loved by local hikers, climbers, walkers and wanderers. There are numerous marked trails, but hikers are free to walk anywhere they want, exploring dramatic gorges and cliffs, thickly forested ravines and wide-open grasslands.
Proclaimed a wilderness area in 1977 and largely untouched by modern development, the Wolkberg is rich in plant species and wildlife. Hikers can spot some of the 150 bird species, as well as klipspringer, mountain reedbuck, bushbuck, otter, the nocturnal caracal and Samango monkeys.
