Robberg Beach, Plettenberg Bay

robberg beach

This is a great family beach, as it offers seven demarcated swimming areas to the public - but be warned, these areas have been chosen very wisely, as in the non-swimming areas, the rip-tides can be fierce and dangerous.

There are also many surf schools here, so if you are looking to learn, Robberg Beach is the place to go. Learn2Surf is the prominent school and offers classes for all surfing levels, from beginners to experienced. Classes include surf board hire

Nearby attractions include the Robberg Nature Reserve, which is a national monument and a marine protected area. The rocky peninsula juts out into the ocean, stretching roughly 4km in length and offering three hiking trails that vary in length.

Marine life is abundant in the reserve and surrounding ocean, including Cape Fur Seals, dolphins and whales. Seabirds in the area include Albatross, Broadbilled Prion and Subantarctic Skua. Robberg is also a breeding ground for the rare African Black Oystercatcher.
