Nelson Mandela Capture Site
Once an unassuming location along the R103, approximately 5km outside of Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, the Nelson Mandela Capture site has become one of South Africa's more interesting historical sites.
The unique Capture Site sculpture, by Marco Cianfanelli and Jeremy Rose (Mashabane Rose Architects), is made up of 50 steel columns that create something of an optical illusion. At a particular point, 30m from the sculpture, the rods come into alignment to form a portrait of Nelson Mandela against a backdrop of the Natal Midlands.

The onsite exhibition tells the story of Mandela's life and capture. Visitors to the site will also find the Truth Cafe and the Truth Store, established by the Apartheid Museum, the uMngeni Municipality and the KwaZulu-Natal Heritage Council.
The internationally recognized Impumulelo Bead Artists are also located at the site. These artists have produced commissioned works for the Museum of Art in New York, the Malmo Museum in Sweden and the Johannesburg Art Gallery.
