Hammock Camp, Mashovhela Bush Lodge, Limpopo

A night under the stars

Mashovhela Hammock Camp

Mashovhela Bush Lodge, an eco-destination in the Morning Sun Nature Reserve, offers bush adventures by day and the chance to sleep out under the stars at night.

Mashovhela's Hammock Camps are situated near a waterfall and consist of comfortable hammocks laid out under the shade of tall trees. At the camp, a local astronomer provides an informative talk about the night skies and guests get a chance to view stars through a telescope.

The weather is great all year round though during the summer months the rain is a concern as the hammock camp can only be accessed weather permitting.

The Morning Sun Nature Reserve falls within the UNESCO-listed Vhembe Biosphere Reserve. The reserve offers scenic views, indigenous forests, waterfalls, rivers, rock pools, and diverse wildlife and plant species.

Steeped in Venda culture and mythology, the reserve is home to numerous sacred Venda sites and legends. Among the most significant is Lake Fundudzi in the Thathe Vondo Forest. Guarded mythical python and white crocodile, Fundudzi is a sacred site where the Vhavenda worship their ancestors.
