First Car Rental is sponsoring five mini-buses and vehicles over the four days that will be used to transport top South African and international players, including Lee-Anne Pace and 23-times Ladies European Tour winner, Trish Johnson, as they compete for a total prize purse of R4.5 million.

Leading American golfer, Cheyenne Woods, and the South African Women's Open defending champion, Marianne Skarpnord from Norway, will also be competing in the tournament.

Honouring great sportswomen

Says Melissa Nortje,

“It is a privilege to be the official transport sponsor for this high-profile international tournament that honours women's greatness in sport.

Lee-Anne's success over the past year has seen her compete on the prestigious LPGA Tour in the United States and make history when she became the first female golfer to win outright the prestigious Golfer of the Year award.

In the last 12 months, Lee-Anne was named the Women's Professional Golf Association's (WPGA) Player of the Year for the fourth consecutive year, won the Investec Ladies Cup and finished 2013 as the number one ranked golfer on the Ladies European Tour.

Other top female golfers forming part of the 126-strong international field competing in the tournament include South Africa's Ashleigh Simon, winner of the Investec Cup, and Stacy Bregman, who came second in the 2013 SA Women's Open.

The 72-hole tournament, co-sanctioned by the Sunshine Ladies Tour (in partnership with the WPGA) and the Ladies European Tour, will take place at an upgraded San Lameer Country Club, most notably the greens. The clubhouse has also undergone significant renovations to make it the perfect host of this world-class tournament.

Started in 1988, the South African Women's Open is the country's oldest women's professional golf tournament. In 2012 it returned to the Ladies European Tour schedule, a move that was widely welcomed as an integral part of bringing top international women's golf back to South African fairways.
