Hike the Otter Trail

The prince of hiking trails

Otter Trail Hike

The Otter Hiking Trail is one of South Africa's most popular trails. This five-day trail, covering 45km, starts at the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp and extends west as far as the Groot River estuary at Nature's Valley.

Each day of the hiking trail varies in length, from 4.8km on the first day to 13.8km on the fourth day, and accommodation is provided in beautifully appointed overnight camps.

The environment along the trail encompasses the beauty of the forest as well as the pristine coastal shores. On the trail, the scenery constantly changes from caves, rock crops and sandy patches to waterfalls and the Indian Ocean.

The best time to hike the Otter Trail is during the summer months, from September to March. The trail is extremely popular, thus booking your hike up to a year in advance is necessary to avoid disappointment.

Due to the physical demands of the Otter Trail, hikers need to be over the age of 12 and younger than 65.
