Lowveld Botanical Garden, Mpumalanga

walter sisulu witpoortjie waterfall botanical gardens

The Lowveld Botanical Garden, which lies just outside of Mpumalanga's capital city, Mbombela, is a must-see for its many plant species and the largest collection of cycads in Africa. The yellow bush lillies and the scarlet vivid flame creeper are just some of the floral delights on offer.

Designed for wheelchair access, this botanical garden gets so much rainfall that it remains green throughout the year, boasting over 2 000 species of plants.

An innovative feature of these Botanical Gardens, the Braille Trail offers blind visitors the opportunity to independently follow the trail and feel the plants, guided by signboards in Braille.

With two eateries on site, visitors are spoilt for choice from the Tea garden to a Restaurant which serves up an array of delicacies from confectioneries to scrumptious meals and is situated in front of an enchanting waterfall.
