October 2015 - From the 1st November 2015, all car hire customers will be capped at R225 per month for e-toll fees, down from the previous R450 per month. This is in line with SANRAL's registered and unregistered e-tag user monthly cap.

Starting from 1 November 2015, First Car Rental will also deduct a flat R11,40 e-toll administration fee (excluding VAT) per rental contract.

This is a standard car rental industry fee and is in addition to any e-toll fees customers may incur during their travels. This minimal fee will partly cover e-toll administration costs currently accrued by car rental firms across the country.

First Car Rental's e-toll policy

First Car Rental's entire fleet has been fitted with e-tags to ensure that renters are not penalised should they plan to travel in and around Gauteng.

Renters using the Gauteng e-toll system will be billed the Government gazetted e-toll Standard Tariff plus a flat admin fee of R11,40 (excluding VAT) per rental contract. The Standard Tariff is exactly the same as the registered e-tag user toll tariff (see the table below for a breakdown of the charges).

Why we have introduced the R11,40 (excluding VAT) admin fee

When the Gauteng e-toll system was first launched in December 2012, First Car Rental decided not to levy an administration fee as it was impossible to calculate the enormous administrative and operational costs of the new system, but that this would be reviewed at a later stage.
