Rhino Orphanage campaign participates in anti-poaching movements

October 2014 – Over the past month, First Car Rental's Rhino Orphanage campaign to raise awareness, participated in two global anti-poaching movements – World Rhino Day on 22 September and the Global March for Elephants and Rhino on 4 October.

The global campaign for elephants and rhino took place in over 136 cities across six continents, helping to create an incredible collective platform to bring widespread attention to the plight of these animals and put pressure on authorities to stop the illegal trade in horn and ivory. The Rhino Orphanage campaign participated in the march at the Legend Golf and Safari Resort in Limpopo, where the orphanage is located.

For World Rhino Day, like-minded people and organisations raised their voices in support of all anti-poaching initiatives by organising events, shows and a variety of other creative initiatives across the globe.

The Rhino Orphanage campaign joined horns with one of these events – Race the Rhino 2014 – a gruelling MTB race that took place at the Van Gaalens MTB Park in Gauteng on 20 September, the Saturday preceding World Rhino Day.

All proceeds from the race went to non-profit organisations such as Poached Rhino and The Renosterveld Trust.

Earlier in September, the Rhino Orphanage Nissan Juke also visited the Business Opportunities and Franchise Expo in Johannesburg.

At all events, people helped raise awareness of the Rhino Orphanage by taking selfies with the campaign's Nissan Juke and posting to social media. To find out more about the Rhino Orphanage campaign click here.
