Plant Hope this Christmas
First Car Rental is challenging customers to join the #trees4hope campaign by pledging a tree to help grow the indigenous Platbos Forest.
To say thank you, anyone who pledges before midnight on Christmas Eve also stands the chance of winning a two-night getaway in the forest's Honey Bee Suite, courtesy of Platbos Forest. Find out more here.
Trees cost R150 each, which includes the planting of the tree on your behalf, an e-certificate with your name, a tree planting record and the approximate carbon offset value.
For R200, Platbos will plant your Gift Tree and send a forest greeting card with a personalized message informing your chosen recipient of the tree planted for them. If you prefer to write your own message, a blank card will be sent to your specified address. To pledge a tree click here.
About Platbos Forest
Situated on the slopes of the Baviaanspoort Hills in the Western Cape, Platbos is an ancient forest with trees that are over 1000 years old. The existence of this unique forest has puzzled botanists. Other relic forests in South Africa and throughout the world survived the gradual temperature increases over the last thousand years by slowly retreating into wetter areas, such as mountain ravines and riverbeds.
Yet, the Platbos Forest grows on deep, sandy alkaline soil in an area where there is relatively low rainfall and no river feeding the forest. This mystery makes the forest extremely rare and endangered.
First Car Rental has pledged 15 trees, one for every year that the company has been a proudly South African service provider.
Says Melissa Storey, Executive Head of Strategy, Development and Marketing at First Car Rental, "As a company, we do our best to reduce our carbon footprint and we are proud to support the rare and indigenous Platbos Forest.
"We are at the onset of the festive season and this is our gift to building a greener South Africa. We encourage all our customers to support the cause and pledge trees for hope."
