Loftus Versfeld Stadium – Pretoria
The Loftus Versfeld Stadium is located 5km from the city centre of Tshwane (Pretoria) in the Gauteng province. Previously, the stadium played host to the Group B matches of the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup. The 2010 match dates have been set and Loftus Versfeld has been chosen as a venue to host the first and second rounds of the Soccer World Cup.
The capacity of the stadium currently stands at 51,762. In order for the Loftus Versfeld Stadium to meet requirements as a host for the 2010 Soccer World Cup, various upgrades were done, including the construction of designated media areas in the lower level of the west stand as well as the improvement of the roof of the stadium.
The electronic scoreboard, floodlights and sound system were also upgraded to improve the quality of the game for spectators as well as optimum media coverage for those fans not lucky enough to experience the match first-hand.
The City of Tshwane is a cultural hub of activity. Beyond the game of soccer, visitors can enjoy township tours, visits to the historical museums, excellent restaurants, as well as world-class shopping. |
