The Nelson Mandela stadium was built from scratch specifically for the 2010 Soccer World Cup. It is situated in Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape province and located 2km from the coast and close to the N2 highway.

A very distinctive feature of this 2010 stadium is the fact that it has been built overlooking the fresh-water North End Lake, affording spectacular views. It is one of the only 3 stadiums to have been built on the coast of South Africa. This 40m high multi-purpose stadium also boasts a unique and very eye-catching roof structure.

The five-tier Nelson Mandela Stadium has a seating capacity of 44 000 with an additional 4000 temporary seats available for the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
