Teachers Across Borders South Africa – (TABSA) – Update
 |
A team of Hawaii USA based volunteer teachers, conducts workshops with “senior phase” colleagues from the Eastern Cape Education Department.
The workshops, now in the 11th year, are designed to demonstrate innovative techniques and methodologies for teaching math’s and science to large classes, using readily available materials. The content is designed to meet and exceed the South African National Curriculum Standards.
June-July 2011 – In Week 1, workshops were held for the entire EC Province senior phase subject advisers at the Eastern Cape Leadership Institute in Mthatha.
In the following week, the TABSA Math’s team worked in the Lusikisiki District (EC) with 500 learners from 9 senior secondary schools, while the Science team held a workshop in Mthatha for 40 teachers from the Libode District. |

In Week 3 of the workshops, 4 lead teachers from each of the 23 EC Districts, with their subject advisers, formed a group of 215 educators in attendance.
In all, TABSA worked with 300+ math’s and science teachers with a direct impact on 60,000 learners from rural schools in the Eastern Cape.
The Eastern Cape Dept. of Education has made a substantial commitment to the professional development of teachers, especially from the rural areas whose everyday challenges are much greater than their colleagues from urban schools.
TABSA provides services free of charge to the Department of Education and 100% of the end-beneficiaries of our services are Black South African citizens (as defined in the B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice).
We wish to record our thanks to First Car Rental for the donation of transportation, in the form of the free use of motor vehicles at various times, during the course and scope of our on-site work in South Africa from March 2010 to July 2011.
Yours sincerely,
Yunus Peer
Director TABSA
